Drawing X's 03:09
I see your construction sign Your high roads in repair Angry, mean, and impolite Destination’s out of site The end you feel is justified Still it bothers me. I can’t feel the comfort in the stream I can’t help but think that there is more for us to be Than coasting life away You keep all of your friends and I’ll keep drawing X’s on my hands Annie says I don’t believe in change People learn to take by any necessary mean Rich is rich and sex is sex We should learn to just accept The problems of our day And carry on our way. Still it bothers me. I can’t feel the comfort in the stream I can’t help but think that there is more for us to be Than coasting life away You keep all of your friends and I’ll keep drawing X’s on my hands

Pity Party 03:56
Oh girl, your tears don’t work for me Shut down the city, let’s have a pity party No girl, you won’t be judged by me Block off the city, let’s have a pity party. Love to complain, try and maintain the social part of anxiety We keep around; keep around people who refuse to suffer silently You’re not fast, you’re not pretty, you’re not smart enough to know when to end. Look around you’re not alone my friend There’s someplace I can recommend Oh girl, your tears don’t work for me Shut down the city, let’s have a pity party No girl, you won’t be judged by me Block off the city, let’s have a pity party. You’re left in despair, cause life ain’t fair Regrets jump to the top of the line Look around and find someone Someone who’s guilt you can assign Life’s cruel to a love sick fool Who could use a bit of your support Left undisputed, cupid’s stupid He can play with someone else’s heart.

Tell my best I’ll be along So my love might not be alone In your eyes I fear a promise taken lightly I’m poor and I can’t deny I’m a worn out suit and tie Damn our fortunes and damn misfortunes findings They both have perfect timing Somebody like me is coming home With a little more love, a little bit more of what you hoped for Somebody like me is coming home No more staying out late, cutting out early I’ll be a little bit more of what you hoped for And you pour my heart in your hands And the black ties circle around like they’ve been planning this for hours Ticking the time till they devour And you say I’m not alone You say we’ve got a home Well, any fool could see my patience is fading Baby I just feel breaking Somebody like me is coming home With a little more love, a little bit more of what you hoped for Somebody like me is coming home No more staying out late, cutting out early I’ll be a little bit more of what you hoped for Did you find my old friend? What’s that you’ve been hiding? How long have you been waiting? For somebody like me

Empty Closet 02:48
An empty closet waiting to fill With those close that we never wear It’s a surplus of family photos That were taken but never shared I’ve got a good excuse for your good intentions They feel good to have around They remind you of the ones that you love and let down It’s a rusted cycle Or a dusty bible An unstrung guitar that lies around It’s a lost vacation or your reputation Let it go don’t let it drag you down I’ve got a good excuse for your good intentions They feel good to have around They remind you of the ones that you love and let down Yeah, they remind me of the ones that we love and let down

Don’t count on me to take it anymore I won’t be the one who let’s you come and pass out on the floor That’s on me for sure I can be the one who lets you go and walk out my front door That’s all I can be Don’t want to know what kind of future is in store It is plain for me to see that you’re not helpless anymore Stop asking me for more Cause baby this is me and I can’t change me anymore That’s all I can be

I asked my dad just what he’d want to be When he grew up, what were his hopes and dreams To find out, just what got in the way I’d make a vow to not be like him someday He said I never gave up on my dreams just found a different one Are we gracious with our age or are we desperate to hold on The best part about getting old confounds you when you’re young Holding you is exactly what I need Sarah Said You might be a dad someday To this boy, it felt like graduation day The nurse she came She checked your lungs and then she weighed you Took your blood and then she bathed you Then I bless and then I named you You see I never gave up on my dreams just found a different one Are we gracious with our age or we desperate to hold on The best part about getting old confounds you when you’re young Holding you is exactly what I need

Move On 03:58
I saw your silhouette by the doorway You kissed my head, “I love you” and “goodnight” Where you go from here, babe, I’ve got a theory Don’t tell me, it’s more than I can bear Will you circle back or will you call me Or are you nice enough to just stay gone Will you walk it back or say I’m sorry Or leave my heart intact and just move one Just move on Well, your mother called to hear my side of the story As a sign of her support through the years But your keys aren’t in the bowl, by the doorway And I can’t hold you, babe, when you’re not here. Will you circle back or will you call me Or are you nice enough to just stay gone Will you walk it back or say I’m sorry Or leave my heart intact and just move one Just move on I am strong enough to take this on Still I worry ‘bout the simple things I hope that you stay warm Father keep him safe now

You think the camera likes you You’re a flow in full bloom Don’t get to excited You’re just the loudest voice in the room You can’t hear disappointment Except the silent pause You can’t hear I don’t like this You can’t hear you were wrong So don’t get to excited When an idea comes too soon Some stars can’t shine their brightest If we’re the loudest voice in the room

I met a kid named Timmy at the bottom of his well He could play the guitar just like he’s ringing a bell The harder that he ran took him farther from his goal His work was like a vampire it was sucking at his soul He moved to South Dakota but he never found much work He talked about his manager, kid sounded like a jerk He thought he could control all of his tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, ticks But the minute he spoke up it wouldn’t qui-, qui-, qui-, qui-, quit Cause the bottom of the barrel—makes an interesting sound Scrape the bottom of the barrel—makes an interesting sound He looked a bit disheveled he looked like he just crack The words that he just used no he could not take them back To many sleepless nights in the backseat of his car He knew he was in trouble with no credit in those cards Cause the bottom of the barrel—makes an interesting sound Scrape the bottom of the barrel—makes an interesting sound Well the gun it didn’t jam or blow up in his face We wonder where he got that dusty .38 It weighs upon a conscience, weighs upon a soul We never can predict when we lose all our control Yes, everybody’s punished, everybody’s cursed Can’t do nothin ‘bout it just make a problem worse Yes, we give a couple dollar, all our heads are bowed Everybody’s frightened when that Bullet hits the ground Yes, everybody’s punished, everybody’s cursed Can’t do nothin ‘bout it just make a problem worse Yes, we give a couple dollar, all our heads are bowed Everybody’s frightened when that Bullet makes a sound Because the bottom of the barrel makes an interesting sound

It’s alright, I know I’m fine, we joke about this all the time You grab my hand, then squeeze my shoulder, in a tight space you lean in closer I’m confused… Are we friends again? No, I can’t keep track are we back together Are we friends again? And ignore the math that makes lovers forever Are we friends again? No I can’t take back those things that I said Are we friends again? And ignore the fact that love is forever. You set me back, you set new boundaries, what did you mean by, “I want you around me” Maybe we should tap the pedal, when you said I don’t want to settle I’m confused… Are we friends again? No, I can’t keep track are we back together Are we friends again? And ignore the math that makes lovers forever Are we friends again? No I can’t take back those things that I said Are we friends again? And ignore the fact that love is forever.

Last Call 03:19
The work, the week, the amount of time that we talk about what we’re doing now All day we dream about living our life out loud, about speaking out We won’t stay in we know we’re so different now Now you’re praying for her to come ask you out Soon it will be last call, she’s leaving Standing there won’t make up her mind I know you need this, can’t you see, I’m on your side Well, not knowing, never going to be it Man that is the worst feelin’ Its last call and she’s leaving, standing there won’t make up her mind Girl you got me What I would give to get the secret Would you stop me You never know unless you speak up Don’t act like you don’t know how to have some fun There’s less to lose, it’s the burden of being young Soon it will be last call, she’s leaving Standing there won’t make up her mind I know you need this, can’t you see, I’m on your side Well, not knowing, never going to be it Man that is the worst feelin’ Its last call and she’s leaving, standing there won’t make up her mind

Dad said I’d stay in You better skip that party Nothing good there happens after 12 or 3 am Weather says stay in Let the plows ahead Your tires lack the tread Boy, don’t be a fool I don’t care, I’m going It won’t be the last time At the rate I’m going You will bury me Storm outside is raging Like a high school party At the latch kid’s rambler That boy’s always alone His father likes to gamble ‘bout every other weekend They’ll cut back on groceries Till payday comes again I don’t care, I’m going It won’t be the last time At the rate I’m going You will bury me Father to father or fathers with no fathers Each on blames each other Each a little true I’m steadfast or stubborn I’ll outlast the other I should probably stay in and say how I love you I don’t care, I’m going It won’t be the last time At the rate I’m going You will bury me

Hey mister, show me your hands Give me your money or your life you understand Don’t call me mister I won’t call you son Give me a minute so I can pick which one I don’t trust a man who carries a gun They’ll never pay a working wage When a man can work two jobs a day And a mother can work to pay someone else to what her child each day And that child grows up alone in a family that’s stretched down to the bone I don’t trust a man who carries a gun I see them coming They’re red and blue I told my friend, now, you know what to do So put your hands where I can see Get on the ground now you listen to me I don’t trust a man who carries a gun

High Uintas 03:34
In the high Unitas, the thunder rolls for miles The wind she whistles through the pine The clouds can change within a moment’s notice Leaving you with no place to go No place left to go Yes I think it’s time We all move on It’s time we get out of the rain The way that I was raised We’d go to church No matter where we’d been on Saturday When we drive past Everybody’d wave We knew everybody’s name My grandpa worked the mine Yours fought the forest service A land of many use is what they’d say Now you people come in here You just see building lots Designer plots where wealthy people play Once you kick the poor out of the way Yes I think it’s time We all move on It’s time we get out of the rain In the high Unitas, the thunder rolls for miles The wind she whistles through the pine The clouds can change within a moment’s notice Leaving you with no place to go No place left to go

about

The past 3 years I began participating in the RPM Challenge. The RPM Challenge is to write and record 10 songs all within the month of Feb. It’s not a competition and there is no prize at the end except for the music you create. This album was recorded after 9 pm and into the early AM once the kids were put to bed, starting on Feb 1. Last year’s album theme was to not use any guitars. All of the sounds were in the box soft synths. At the time, I was drawing heavily on Depeche Mode. This year, I planned on doing a grunge throwback with lots of guitar noodling(STP, Smashing Pumpkins, and Dinosaur Jr.). However, halfway through the first song, and 30 failed attempts at 1 guitar solo, I quickly realized my limits as a wannabe rock god and switched back to what I know. In the end, this year just sounds like Randy. To be fair, most of the songs were written this fall in the back of a Prius, on my lunches at the park. So, I did bend the rules a bit this year.

In the 90s, I remember hearing the band Everclear had recorded their first single with $500 on a 8 track in their basement(Fire Maple Song). While this was ridiculously cheap for the time. $500 seemed like an insurmountable amount of money to a 15 year old. For my last three albums, I have recorded them all with the same cheap Chinese condenser mic I bought off eBay for $30. Including the recording software, these albums were created from a modest $100-$200 investment which I made close to 6 or 8 years ago. For today’s bedroom artist, this isn’t an uncommon story, but for a kid from the 90s this is a modern day miracle. As always--Mom, Dad, and my 2 friends, thanks for listening.
